Eyes that do not believe in the destiny of Allah

The nicest thing in this life is to be satisfied with the destiny of Allah. This was confirmed and commanded by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) where he said: "O Abu Hurayrah, be pious, you shall be the most worshipper among people. Be content with what Allah has given you, you shall be the richest of people. Love for Muslims and the believers what you love for yourself and your family and hate for them what you hate for yourself and your family, then you shall be a true believer. Be good to your neighbors to be a true Muslim, and beware of frequent laughter because frequent laughter is corruption to the heart." (A good hadith) see Hadith No. 7833 in Sahih Al Jami`.

When a person ponders over the favors of Allah, he will find himself filled with uncountable favors and graces. Allah (May He be Exalted) says: "And has completed and perfected His Graces upon you, (both) apparent (i.e Islamic Monotheism, and the lawful pleasures of this world, including health, good looks, etc.) and hidden [i.e. One's Faith in Allah (of Islamic Monotheism) knowledge, wisdom, guidance for doing righteous deeds, and also the pleasures and delights of the Hereafter in Paradise, etc.]?" [Surat Luqman: 20].

Sheikh Sha`rawy says: This is a fact that cannot be denied by anyone; do you deny that He created you and created for you, from yourselves, mates for reproduction? Do you deny that He created heavens, planets, galaxies, and created the night for you to sleep, as He created day for you to earn your living? Contemplate in yourselves and in the apparent and the hidden senses He had created for you. He made for you a task and a mission to fulfill without feeling that Allah has bestowed signs and miracles inside your body. Everyday science discovers new favors and benefits of Allah inside our bodies as well as in the surrounding universe. The meaning of "Apparent" is the favors which we can see and consider, whereas the "hidden" means the signs and favors that have not been discovered yet. There are some favors we realize and some we have not realized yet. It was said that the apparent favors are Islam and good manners, whereas the hidden is the concealment of your bad deeds. (Commentary of Al Qutuby).

Each person on earth was given enough favors to the extent that we can confirm that all people are equal in these favors. However, although that equality in favors, we find that many people are not satisfied with the favors of Allah, so keep envious, indignant, and spiteful cursing time and crying for his bad luck. Moreover, he wishes that favors are removed from their owners to come to them and this is the clear envy.

Verily, these envious eyes are disaffected to the destiny of Allah because they have lost insight even if they have sights. They wanted to judge Allah in terms of His Universe by not satisfying with the destiny of Allah in His Universe, as if they say: "O Lord, why do you gave so and son and deprived me?"

Envy is a crime and a major sin because it includes objection to Allah's Decree; therefore, Ibn Al Qayyim counted it as one from the pillars of atheism. Ibn Al Qayyim says: The pillars of atheism are four: Arrogant, envy, anger, and lust. In fact, envy is a kind of defying Allah because a person who holds this characteristic abhors to see a person living in a grace which Allah satisfied for His Servant, but that person loved to see it go away. By this, he defies Allah in His Destiny and Fate, what He loves and what He dislikes. For that reason, Satan was His Real Enemy because its sin was done out of arrogant and envy. Therefore, he negated those two characteristics (i.e., the knowledge of Allah and His Monotheism and contentedness with Allah and returning to Him)." (Al Fawa'id by Ibn Al Qayyim).

Ibn Al Qayyim in his previous speech diagnoses the disease, and writes down the recipe because envy is an incurable disease resulting from corruption of belief. To eradicate this disease, a person has to approach Allah by knowing and unifying Him. Allah (Glory be to Him) does whatever He likes in His Kingdom and no one dares to question His judgment. This nearness to Allah by exerting efforts in understanding His Goals and leaving out the graces which the people were granted makes a person be assured and in high spirit because belief will make him satisfied and accordingly, the little in his hand will become abundant. Then, he will not look at the graces of high people because the entire world is not worth in the sight of Allah a wing of a mosquito.

Finally, we say to every envious eye: you are eating up yourself by this raging fire because an envier will remain in displeasure until he becomes like fire that eats itself if it does not find anything to eat. An envier should also pause and ask himself a question: If I were in the place of the owner of the blessing, would have I satisfied that anyone envies it or even wishes that it would be removed? Of course, the answer is no. Then, why do not you love for your Muslim brother what you love for yourself?
