Clarification about the declarations of Sheikh Al Shay` about the Syrian revolution

Clarification about the legitimacy of providing aid to Syrians and their revolution, and the obligation of supporting them against the tyranny of Bashar and his criminal Baathist regime

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, his Companions, and those who follow him righteously:

With reference to the TV program broadcasted on Friday 10 Rajab 1435, and caused some people to understand my words wrongly about the Syrian revolution in its current position and would underestimate the great sacrifices of the Syrian people, I say:

The program presenter said: "Convey the saying of Khalid Al Shaya` that the Syrian Revolution is illegitimate!" Then he concluded the episode without giving me the chance to comment. It is well-known that a person is not responsible for any saying of someone else. Man in Islamic Shari`ah and in all laws is only responsible for his own words and actions which he confirms and repeats.

Therefore, I am correcting the words which were wrongly understood from me, pull them back, and confirm the words which I mentioned many times in different occasions. The Islamic rule states that general words are explained by detailed words.

To clarify things, correct the mistake, and remove ambiguity, I say:

1- Saying that the Syrian revolution is illegitimate in its current position is against the teachings of the Shari`ah and opposes convictions, international laws, and sound reason. Allah forbid to adopt such view. Our people in Syria were overwhelmed by a sectarian Baathist Nusayri criminal regime which does not treat them kindly and repeat its criminal record toward its citizens and Muslims.

2- It is our duty to support our Muslim brothers in Syria who fight this sectarian Nusayri regime which kills them and practices all criminal actions. Part of supporting them is to provide them with arms and equipment to enable them defend themselves and face the Nusayri war machine along with their Safavid Iranian allies and its supporters in Southern Lebanon. Moreover, supporting them in international forums and mobilizing people to support them by all means.

3- My description of the Syrian Revolution as "is illegitimate by this way," means: Its beginning which should not be repeated in other countries after knowing its consequences. That is what we wish for Syria and other revolutions which fuel were women, children, and unarmed men, in addition to the depletion of lives and money, and the death of people. We wish it had not been erupted in the first place, not for the sake of Bashar and its tyrant regime, but because his criminal actions doubled until they included most Syrian people.

It was reported in the Glorious Qur'an: "Say (O Muhammad): I possess no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Ghaib (unseen), I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me." [Surat Al A`raf: 188].

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said in one occasion: "If I had formerly known what I came to know lately, I would not have so and so."

He wished to change his past actions for the sake of interest.

As for the opposition of the Syrian people and its revolution to the Baathist regime, we have oppressed and displaced people whose tragedy exceeded all imaginations, and the legitimacy of supporting them does not need the saying of anyone because it is crystal-clear and all codes confirm it.

4- It is shameful for the peoples and governments of the world, especially the Western world, Russia, and China to speak about human rights then ignore them in the case of Syria. This oppression and injustice is unacceptable toward any person no matter his creed, doctrine, race, and nationality; so where is humanity and where is freedom which they have been calling to?

5- As for the establishment of Shari`ah in Syria before the revolution, "I mean the practice of Islamic rituals, such as Salah, fasting, and acts of worship." Our people in Syria used to establish them on the ground. Can we accept the saying of people who claim that the Syrian people had left their religion and do not establish the rituals of their religion and the Shari`ah of Allah? This is injustice and falsehood because they are believing people with profound faith because they have established their religion despite the severe harassment they have been through and held firm with their religion in the face of the Sectarian Nusayri regime which has been fighting the Shari`ah and its people. The Syrian sectarian regime has followed the principles of the Baath Party which declared its disbelief in Islam. Therefore, this sectarian regime filled prisons with its people, killed them, and tortured them severely. Does any reasonable person think that Bashar, the Nusayri, and his ilk were against the Shari`ah of Allah and His righteous believers.

I have explained these matters to free myself from sin and to support our Syrian brothers in many occasions: In TV programs, sermons, lectures, and articles for the sake of Allah. Our Lord says: "And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the Cause of Allâh, and for those weak, ill-treated, and oppressed among men, women, and children, whose cry is: "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from You one who will protect, and raise for us from You one who will help."" [Surat An-Nisa': 75].

Allah also says: "Permission to fight is given to those (i.e. believers against disbelievers), who are fighting them, (and) because they (believers) have been wronged, and surely, Allah is Able to give them (believers) victory." [Surat Al Hajj: 39].

O Allah, provide a way out for our brothers and people of Syria! O Allah, send down Your Punishment upon Nusayri oppressors and their aid, for You are All-Powerful, Cherisher! O Allah send peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad.
