Professer Zayd Muhammad Ar-Rummany, the professor of economy in the Islamic University of Muhammad ibn sa`ud warned against the consumptive greed which spreads during the month of Ramadan without logical justification, where the Saudi families are surrounded by campaigns of publicity, advertising, and marketing festivals everywhere.
There is a frenetic race that is associated with new marketing techniques, exciting advertising methods, and attractive mass media. Lavish expenditure in the month of Ramadan cannot be consistent with the conditions of the community which mostly are in dire need to maintain every effort and every possibility against waste.
Ar-Rummany referred that the constant increasing consumption means more dependence on the West because we have not yet reached the stage of self-sufficiency or a reasonable level to provide our consuming needs depending on our resources and efforts, which leads to a state of dependency on the West in regard of food because they own these resources and can control its types, quality, and the time of sending.
Hence, there are many dangerous dimensions for this lavish consumption that threaten the economic life and economic security.
