Burhanuddin Rabbani, former Afghan president and chairman of the Afghan High Peace Council, told BBC Persian Sunday that Norway had invested large amounts of money and had invited Taliban delegations to Norway several times recently for talks.

Nine Norwegian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, most of them by the Taliban. UN envoy Siri Skare was also killed in a Taliban attack.

Helge Lurås of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), says it's clear Norway has a political interest in a reconciliation process, but that he doesn't know how far it's gotten. He also points out that it's not certain that the strategy of the Norwegian authorities complies with that of the US and UK.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had no comment.
