The Question:

As-salamu `Alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!)

Personally, I know someone who purchases copies from the Qur'an and distribute them to masjids, what is the reward of this action because I heard a statement which I believe it is a Hadith says: "Whoever gives a copy from the Qur'an as inheritance?" but I did not have much time to hear the reward of he who does so? So, what is the reward of this action? I hope you mention the Hadiths and Ayahs which prove the reward of this action.   I ask Allah, the Most High, to gather us with His Prophet at the Prophet's basin, may Allah reward you the best!

The Answer:

All praise be to Allah and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family, his Companions, and those who follow him.

May Allah reward that person the best for purchasing copies from the Qur'an and placing them in masjids because it is a kind of the everlasting charity and from the knowledge which is beneficial and its reward shall reach a person after his death as was authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "The rewards of the good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: Knowledge which he taught and spread;  a righteous son whom he leaves behind;  a copy of the Qur'an that he leaves as a legacy;  a mosque that he built;  a house that he built for wayfarers;  a canal that he dug;  or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health.  These deeds will reach him after his death."

[Reported by Ibn Majah 242, and Ibn Khuzaymah, and Al Mundhiry graded it as good in At-Targhib Wat-Tarhib (1/58) and Al Albany graded it as good in Sahih At-Targhib wat-Tarhib (1/ 17).

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:  "There are seven things for which a person shall be rewarded after his death while he is in his grave: Whoever teaches knowledge, digs a canal, digs a well, plants a palm tree, builds a mosque, gives a copy of the Qur'an in inheritance, or leaves an offspring to seek forgiveness for him after his death." [Reported by Al Bazzar, Abu Nu`aym in Al Hilyah, and Al Bayhaqy].

The same meaning is implied on the person who brings a copy from the Qur'an and place it in a masjid, so he give in charity while he is sound and giving in charity while a person is healthy is better as was reported by Al Bukhari: "A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: O Messenger Allah, Which charity is the most superior in reward? He replied: The charity which you practice while you are healthy, niggardly and afraid of poverty and wish to become wealthy.  Do not delay it to the time of approaching death and then say: Give so much to so and so, and so much to so and so. And it has already belonged to so and so (as it is too late)."

This person gifted copies from the Qur'an to masjids, so we hope that he will be included in these Hadiths. The best charity is given when a person is healthy and keen to withhold money unlike if a person is sick and because of his sickness, money has become priceless to him.
