Question

As-salamu `Alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!).

I was hesitant to write to you, but after I had read some of your answers to many counsels, I decided to do so because I had seen that your answers were correct; May Allah reward you the best!

In fact, I have been afflicted with a chronic disease in the intestine, and everyday I take a medication for that. Thanks to Allah, I do not feel that I am sick, on the contrary I feel I am quite healthy.

I praise Allah, the Generous for His Ample Generousity, and because I do not complain but to my Lord, I did not tell anyone about my sickness. My Lord granted me success and I finished my study, my Masters, and my PH.D, and I have a good job, thanks to Allah.

I am religious and of good manners, but a question jumped into my mind which I hope that you answer according to your wide scope of knowledge:

Should I tell the one whom I want to marry about my disease? Does it affect the marital relationship? Is keeping this secret and not telling her about my disease a fraud? What do you think? May Allah bless you!

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, Companions, and those who follow him.

I ask Allah Almighty, the Lord of the Mighty Throne, to cure you. As for that chronic disease, you do not have to tell the one whom you shall marry about it because it is not a repulsive disease nor it is one of the defects which shall affect the sexual intercourse or its pleasure. Moreover, it is not one of the infectious diseases which the jurists counted, such as: Leprosy, hemorrhoids, fistula, liquid sores in the vagina, as it does not prevent the purpose of marriage which is love and intimacy.
