Both Allah and His Messenger (Peace be upon him) have repeatedly asserted the importance of making Du’a. Consider the following sayings:

1.    Allah’s promise to the believers:

Allah has asserted in no uncertain language about Him listening to our Du’a. Consider the following from Quran and Hadith:

Allah says (meaning):

“And your Lord said: Invoke Me (i.e. believe in My Oneness (Islamic Monotheism) and ask Me for anything) I will respond to your (invocation). Verily, those who scorn My worship [i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness, (Islamic Monotheism)]   they    will    surely    enter    Hell    in humiliation!” [Surah Ghaafir, 40:60]

Allah also says in the Quran (interpretation of the meaning):

“And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.” [Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:186]

2.    The Prophet’s reassurance to the believers:

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) also said:

“Your Lord, may He be blessed and exalted, is characterized by modesty and generosity, and He is so kind to His slave that, if His slave raises his hands to Him, He does not let him take them back empty.” [Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1488; classed as Saheeh by Al- Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 1320]

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

“Allah is Most Generous, and He dislikes to turn away empty the hands of His slave when he raises them to Him.” [Narrated  by  Al-Tirmidhi,  3556;  classed  as  Saheeh  by  Al- Albaani in Saheeh Al-Tirmidhi]

3.    Du’a is very dear to Allah:

It was narrated that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:

“There is nothing dearer to Allah than Du’a.” [Classed as hasan by Al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Al-Tirmidhi, 2684]

This should leave no doubt in our minds about Allah listening to our Du’a and how He likes the act of Du’a. Let’s not lose that opportunity.
