`A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "I said: O Messenger of Allah, If I realize Laylat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it? He said: You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka `Afuwwun, Tuhibbul-`Afwa, Fa`fu `Anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me)." [Reported by At-Tirmidhy who said: this is a good and authentic Hadith].[1]

In another wordings of Ibn Majah: `A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that she said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think I should say in my supplication, if I come upon Laylatul-Qadr? He said: You should say: Allahumma innaka `Afuwwun, Tuhibbul-`Afwa, Fa`fu `Anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me)."

Benefits and rulings:

- It shows the virtue of invocation in Laylat-ul-Qadr (the Night of Decree).

- Its invocations are likely accepted.

- Desirability of invoking Allah with the short eloquent invocations.

- Using not ambiguous supplications.

- The supplications to which the Prophet guided is one of the most collective and useful invocations that collects the goodness of the world and the Hereafter. When Allah (Glory be to Him) pardons His Servants in the world, He lifts punishments and grants them blessings. When He pardons them, He admits them to Paradise and makes them safe of Hell.

[1] Reported by At-Tirmidhy (3513), Ibn Majah (3850), An-Nasa'y in As-Sunnan Al Kubra (10708), and Ahmad (6 / 171). Al Hakim graded it as authentic and said: According to the conditions of Al Bukhari and Muslim (1 / 712).
