The Grave

All of the body will be worn away in the grave except: his spine

All of the body of Adam will be eaten by the earth except: his tailbone. Proof to that: the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The only thing in a man which would not decay would be one bone (spinal chord) from which the whole frame would be reconstituted on the Day of Resurrection..”[1] In a narration: “There is a bone in the human being which the earth would never consume and it is from this that new bodies would be reconstituted (on the Day of Resurrection). They said: Allah's Messenger, which bone is that? Thereupon he said: It is the spinal bone.”[2]

In the two Sahihs (there is) the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There is nothing of the human body that does not decay except one bone; that is the little bone at the end of the coccyx of which the human body will be recreated on the Day of Resurrection..” [3]

The earth does not eat the bodies of the Prophets (peace be upon him). In the Sunan of Abu Dawud, Al Nisai and Ibn Majah, the Musnad of Imam Ahmed and from the Hadith of Owais ibn Ows that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Among the most excellent of your days is Friday; on it Adam was created, on it he died, on it the last trumpet will be blown, and on it the shout will be made, so invoke more blessings on me that day, for your blessings will be submitted to me. The people asked: Messenger of Allah, how can it be that our blessings will be submitted to you while your body is decayed? He replied: Allah, the Exalted, has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of Prophets.”[4]

Al Nawawi (may Allah be pleased with him) said in his explanation of the first Hadith: “the tailbone means: the delicate bone that is at the bottom of the hard (backbone). That is: the head of the coccyx.”

Your situation is like this in your grave, either in comfort so you are happy or in Hell so you are unhappy until you are dealt with. You will remain on this condition of yours until Allah Almighty resurrects you. It is for you to think about those who died many years before you; what is their condition?
