The gathering comes after the resurrection. People are resurrected first then they are gathered.

What is the gathering and what is the proof for it?

Linguistically: bringing together.

In the Shariah: bringing the creation together on the Day of Resurrection for their reckoning and dealing with them.

• The gathering is confirmed by the book, the Sunnah and the consensus.

From the book: His words Almighty:

{ قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ  * لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ }

“Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples; Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day. [Al Waqia: 49, 50]

From the Sunnah: the Hadith of Sahl ibn Sa`id (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The people will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection on reddish white land like a pure loaf of bread (made from pure fine flour)”^[1]. The Muslims have agreed on the authenticity of the gathering on the Day of Resurrection.
