It raised my curiosity this excellence to which he reached after he had been without distinctive capabilities for quick success or the owner of a genius character to help him achieve that. Then I could not hide my curiosity after seven years from separation because of the concerns of life,
so I asked him directly: what is the secret of this success?
He said to me:
I saw that the current labor market need technical and administrative experiences in a time my capabilities or my experiences were insufficient to put my foot on the beginning of the road. So, I decided to use the most prominent defect I have which is (gossip) which made many of my friends complain about me.
I shook my head smiling. I could not completely get rid of that defect despite all my tries to control it. I felt that I have long time to get use to silence or I should seek advice to get rid of that defect.
I found the chance to benefit from my defect in doing something, so I worked as a salesman where my gossip served me in creating types of untraditional dialogue which salesmen usually use. I was talking with the customers about different subjects which are irrelevant to the product I sell. Workers are so social because they always deal with the people and do not own the centers or shops, and it is enough to differentiate between work and human side to open a window for social communication. So, I sit with them in the break for few minutes or ask them for a glass of water or ask them to use the bathroom. Of course, these were not tricks but they were according to the situation, and each situation enabled me to recognize the labor market and other technical experiences, especially I was a salesman in my specialty, where I worked as a salesman for a company of medical drugs, and in my field of study (Science - Department of Chemistry).
I collected different technical expertise, I do not say they are much or serious to that extent, but enough to form an initial notion about this field.
After a while I felt I no longer added something new, and my colleagues were achieving high rate of sales because they depended on persistence which make many customers sell the product to feel relaxed or at least set an appointment for purchase.
I felt it is dishonest way to achieve success because what has been taken out of shyness is illegal, so what about if it is taken by pressure and persistence.
After long thinking in my defects which impede salesmen in general, I found that they are to be summed up in the following points:
People do not feel comfort about salesmen because they are not dependable when something goes wrong, their products do not have warranty cards, many of them resort to lie to circulate their goods.
I decided to take a new approach other than those, so I used to offer the product to customers and when they refuse, I tell them to count its negatives or the reasons which make them refrain from purchasing it. Some of them used to refuse, but man of them were answering, especially when I start counting its negatives.
After a while of collecting negatives, I presented them to my manager and said to him: These are reasons which stand as a barrier between our customers and our products. I suggested some solutions and he provided me with others.
Things got better and marketing was accompanied by cards and posters bearing the image of the product and a simple explanation to its functions, moreover the poster bore the name of the company and hot lines to reach it, in addition to my card which has my telephone number and e-mail.
After a while, I could make a list of permanent customers and I benefited from them in developing the product and the way to market it depending on the needs of the market and its quality.
That increased the volume of my experiences which I write in my CV to present it to some companies which suit my dreams.
Indeed, I could work as a supervisor on the production lines in one of the companies which are specialized in medical drugs then I had the opportunity to travel to "Abu Dhabi" and worked there until I have become the head of the production department in the company.
I still dream to move forward, then he smiled and said: But I am still unable to get rid of that gossip which enabled you to write these lines.
Each one of us laughed and remembered the happy past events.
Only then I recalled the old saying:
"If you cannot get rid of your defects, at least manage them well."
