PATNA: The mosque at Hai commercial complex on Exhibition Road here is going to organize a 'Jashn-e-Qur’an' on March 10, which will be addressed by some top Islamic scholars of the country. The event will commemorate the discourse on Qur’anic verses that started from 1990 and during the last 23 years, each stanza of holy Qur’an was translated through PowerPoint presentation and then its message explained to the audience.

On completion of two series of discourses - discourse on one stanza of Qur’an having 540 stanzas every Sunday at the mosque - the third series will start from next week. This mosque is possibly the first in the city to start this discourse inviting leading clerics and scholars to deliver their discourse on Qur’an. They included scholars like late Maulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi and Maulana Abdul Karim Parekh.

This mosque is also unique in the sense that women come here to pray on Fridays and join the special prayers in the night during the month of Ramzan. There are very few mosques in the country which are open to women.

Dr. Ahmad Abdul Hai, an eminent surgeon and man behind the idea of discourse on Qur’anic verses, said, "The mosque is a place not only for prayers but also to deliberate on other issues of life." He said when the mosque was opened in his complex, there was plan to make it an Islamic centre and discourse on Qur’an billed as 'Dars-e-Qur’an', or teaching of the holy book, was introduced. People of other religions also visited the mosque to listen to the discourse, he added.

The first round of discourse, which started in 1990 and covered all the 30 chapters of Qur’an, concluded in 2002. The second round began the same year and ended in the first week of March 2013, taking over 11 years for the completion of one round. The function on next Sunday will herald the beginning of third round of discourse on Qur’anic verses and their translation, theme, context and background.

The scholars who will take part in the discourse are Maulana Kalb-e-Sadiq of Lucknow who will speak on Qur’an and human rights; Wasi Ahmad Nomani, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, on Qur’an, science and cosmos and Abdullah Tariq of Rampur on message of Qur’an for humanity while principal secretary, health, Bihar government, Vyasji will express his personal views on Qur’an. The programme will be held on the mosque premises and be chaired by Maulana Syed Nizamuddin, the chief of Phulwarisharif-based Imarat Shariah.

"It is wrong to treat Qur’an as a religious book of Muslims. This holy book speaks volumes about humanity and in today's world of turmoil one can read and understand this book for real mental peace," said Dr. Hai.
