IPOH - Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah (KUISAS) in collaboration with the Perak government will hold the World Conference on Islamic Thoughts and Civilization 2014 (WCIT2014) this Aug 18 and 19, here.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the conference was aimed at gathering Islamic thinkers and academicians to share knowledge and views on various issues from the Islamic perspective.
The theme of the conference, to be held at Hotel Casuarina@Meru here, is "The Rise and Fall of Civilizations: Current Affairs of Islamic Nations".
Speaking to reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting today, Zambry said the conference would touch on economic management and politics, two important elements that determined the rise and fall of a civilization.
He said the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah would open the conference and deliver a keynote address.
The second keynote address will be delivered on the second day of the conference by Istanbul's Fatih University rector, Prof Dr Serif Ali Tekalan, who will also present a working paper titled "The Role of Waqf in Islamic Civilization: Turkey's Experience in Waqf for Education".
Apart from Malaysia, the 300 participants expected also come from Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Libya, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
