ORAN - Two thousand (2,000) mosques are being built across the country, indicated Saturday in Oran, Minister of Wakfs (Endowments) and Religious Affairs, Mohamed Aissa.

Once these facilities built, the number of mosques will reach 20,000 in Algeria, the minister told "El Djoumhouria" daily form, stressing that these buildings are currently supervised by 45,000 people.

Concerning the training of imams, Mohamed Aissa announced the opening in next year of Degree-Master-Doctorate (LMD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education.

About the project of the Grand Mosque "Abdelhamid Ibn Badis" which will be inaugurated soon, the minister said that this mosque and Islamic center will be financed and supervised by the state.

He indicated that those Islamic centres will come under the Grand Mosque of Algiers, which is being built in Mohammadia in Algiers and the imams of these centres will be members of the Algiers Mosque's National Scientific Council.

Mohamed Aissa added that his ministry intended to submit a law to upgrade this council into a Fiqh Academy.
