28- The Prophet's guidance concerning the cure of distress, worry, sorrow, and grief[1]:

1- He used to say in distress: "There is no deity but Allah the Ever-Magnificent the Most-forbearing. There is no deity but Allah, the Lord of the Supreme Throne. There is no deity but Allah, the Lord of the seven Heavens, the Lord of the earth, and the Honorable Lord of the Thrown." [Reported by Al Bukhari and Muslim].

2- When something concerns him, he used to say: "O Ever-Living! O Self-Subsisting! By Your Mercy I seek Your Assistance." [Reported by At-Tirmidhy]. And said: "The supplications of distressed people are: O Allah, Your Mercy that I hope for, so do not entrust me to myself for a blink of an eye, and reform my affairs for me! No god but You." [Reported by Abu Dawud].

"When something grieved him, he resorted to Salah."

3- He said: "No person is afflicted by worry or concern and says: "Allaahumma Inny `Abduka, ibnu `Abdika, ibnu Amatika, naasiyaty biyadika, madhin fiyya hukmuka, `Adlun fiyya qada'uka, As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, Aw Anzaltahu fy kitaabika, Aw `Allamtahu Ahadan min khalqika, Awista'tharta bihi fy `Ilmil-ghaybi `Indaka, an taj`alal-Qur'ana rabi`a qalby, wa noora sadry, wa jala'a huzny, wa Dhahaba hammy." (O Allah, I am Your slave and the son of Your male slave and the son of your female slave. My forehead is in Your Hand (i.e. you have control over me). Your Judgment upon me is assured and Your Decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with, revealed in Your Book, taught any one of Your creation or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress," but Allah will cause his distress and worry go and replace it with joy instead." [Reported by Ahmad].

4- He used to teach me at the time of terror to say: "I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah against His Wrath, Punishment, and the evil of His Servants and against the insinuations of Satan, and I seek refuge in You, O lord, against them to come." [Reported by Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhy].

5- He used to say: "When a person is hit by a catastrophe and says: We are to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me because of my catastrophe and compensate me a better one, but Allah will reward[2] him because of his catastrophe and compensate him a better one." [Sahih Muslim].

[1] Zad Al Ma`ad: (4\180).

[2] Zad Al Ma`ad: "Refuge him," and these words were reported in Musnad Imam Ahmad and the Hadith is in Sahih Muslim
