Question

As-Salamu `Alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!)

I am a young man at the end of twenties who lost his sister in an accident. She was five and I was eight. I lived an innocent childhood with her which was full of love and intimacy. However, the will of Allah destined that she would leave this world in unexpected day. She passed away in a bus accident where she was going back from school.

I watched the accident with my own eyes. I did not know what was happening and what was the meaning of death. Moreover, I did not know where did she go? The last time I saw her was on the morning of that day before leaving home.

What can I do to commemorate her memory in my heart?

What is the final destination of children who die in their childhood?

Answer

Praise be to Allah and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), his family, his Companions, and those who follow them righteously until the Day of Resurrection.

What Allah has taken [souls] belongs to Him and what He has given belongs also to Him, and everything has a fixed term at Him. So, observe patience and expect the reward from Allah for your patience. Dear valued brother, your deep sad feelings are still vivid in your heart after twenty-one years, and I think they are satanic thoughts to grieve you. One of the good traits of Allah's Mercy is that He created forgetfulness to forget sad events and of His Mercy is that days remove bad memories. So, constrain yourself from thinking in these bad memories because you have lost your sister many years ago as it is part on belief in fate and destiny. You should observe as it is desirable for painful memories. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: "So wait with patience for the Decision of your Lord." [Surat Al Qalam: 48].

Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: "Therefore be patient (O Muhammad peace be upon him) as did the Messengers of strong will and be in no haste about them (disbelievers)." [Surat Al Ahqaf: 35].

Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: "And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sâbirûn (the patient). * Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. * "They are those on whom are the Salawât (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who receive His) Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones." [Surat Al Baqarah: 155 - 157].

It was reported in the authentic Hadith reported by Al Bukhari on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No fatigue, nor disease, nor concern, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that."

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to one of his daughters when she sent to him to inform him that her son is dying, "Command her to observe patience and seek the reward from Allah." [Reported by Al Bukhari and Muslim].

In this life, man varies from a condition to another: From harm to goodness, from fear to security, from narrowness to vastness, from poverty to richness, and from health to sickness, so a person needs patience. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: "Only those who are patient shall receive their reward in full, without reckoning." [Surat Az-Zumar: 10].

Restrain yourself, and observe patience and you shall find help from Allah because He (Glory be to Him) says: "As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allâh's Religion - Islâmic Monotheism). And verily, Allâh is with the Muhsinûn (good doers)." [Surat Al `Ankabut: 69].

As for the actions you want to do to commemorate the memory of your little sister, it is not hidden from you that your sister died before reaching the legal age of charging, and the majority of scholars affirm that Muslim children shall enter Paradise; whereas some scholars reported the consensus of scholars to that because of Allah's Saying: "And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring." [Surat At-Tur: 21].

Authentic proofs from the Sunnah denoted that meaning, of which: The Hadith that was reported by Al Bukhari on the authority of Samurah ibn Jundub that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said in the long Hadith of seeing Allah: "So we proceeded till we reached a garden of deep green dense vegetation, having all sorts of spring colors. In the midst of the garden there was a very tall man and I could hardly see his head because of his great height, and around him there were children in such a large number as I have never seen. I said to my companions, 'Who is this?' They replied: 'Proceed! Proceed!' In their answer, they said: And the tall man whom you saw in the garden, is Abraham and the children around him are those children who die with Al-Fitrah (the Islamic Faith)."

Ahmad, Al-Hakim, and Al Bayhaqy reported from the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Muslims' children exist on a mountain in Paradise whom are undertaken by Abraham and Sarah until they go back to their parents on the Day of Resurrection."

Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in Al Fatawa Al Kubra (536/5) said: Muslims' children are in Paradise according to the consensus of scholars. They shall intercede for their parents on the Day of Resurrection to enter Paradise for the Prophet's saying: "It will be said to them: 'Enter Paradise.' They will say: 'Not until our parents enter.' So it will be said: 'Enter Paradise, you and your parents.'" [Reported by An-Nasa'y and others].

Ibn Kathir (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: As for Muslim children, there is no disagreement among scholars as Al Qady Abu Ya`la ibn Al Farra' Al Hanbaly from Imam Ahmad who said: There is no disagreement among scholars they are from the dwellers of Paradise, and that is well-known among people, and this is our view. [Tafsir Al Qur'an Al `Azhim (3/33)].

Imam Ahmad (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: Who does doubt that Muslim children shall enter Paradise? He also said: There is no disagreement in this issue. [Hashiyat Ibn Al Qayyim `Ala Sunan Abu Dawud (7/83)].

Imam An-Nawawy said: Certified Muslim scholars hold consensus that Muslim children who die in young age shall enter Paradise because they are not charged with ordinances. [Explanation of Sahih Muslim (16/207)].

Al Qurtuby said: The view which states that they dwell in Paradise is the view of the majority. He said also: Some scholars denied disagreement and said it is unanimous. [At-Tadhkirah 2/328].

I ask Allah to bestow mercy on all Muslim deceased.
