Question

I was and still suffering from a big problem in my view. That problem bothered and worried me much, which is belittling those who have the ability to write. For example, when I want to participate in some competitions about stories, I find the people in charge limit the age of the participants to eighteen and older age, and in some competitions I see myself able to participation in, but I am afraid of failure because I shall compete with great and well-known novelists.

In general, society does not care much for us. I do not find enough attention from any individual in our Arab society, with one exception which was my teacher who instilled in me self-confidence  and used to call me "the novelist" until I started writing short stories.

Everybody in my environment was surprised - whether in school or family - by the level of my stories and my style. My teacher described me of as an article writer and encouraged me to try more and more, so I wrote my first article and read it to the class.

She also described me as a poet because I wrote five poems that year. The outcome of my stories are: the story of "Tears on the wall of memories," the story of "The sun of the world rose, whereas the sun of freedom has set," the story of "homeless between the lines of oblivion," and until now I have not finished writing the story of "on the gallows", so is there someone to hear our voice? Why do the majority see us as young and still in primary school? Why all this?

Answer

From your writing to what you feel and from the phrases you have chosen to be the headlines of your stories, I consider you a literary talent in writing. Furthermore, I predict a bright future for you in the world of writers and poets - In Sha' Allah.

It is very natural that the people who are around you do not understand you in the beginning because society does not realize the success of a person at sudden. We do not hear about a scholar, a scientist or a writer but after the emergence of his invention or creativity.

For example, "Thomas Edison" had been expelled from school accused of stupidity and backwardness, but His mother encouraged him until he became the inventor of numerous inventions!

However, you should always have confidence that there are some people who care for the talented and understand the assets they have, like your teacher. However, you should share your writings with the family because their support will be strong for your talent.

Sometimes people make mistakes when they fix their hopes and wishes to the top, whereas they did not start to do the first step rightly. This is why we fear failure or feel that people do not estimate our capabilities.

Of the characteristics of the gifted people: Their distinctive independent and self-confidence. It is very pretty that you know your talents, endeavor to discover your talent, and develop it because everything if it does not increase, it will decrease. Therefore, you need someone to read your stories, encourage you, criticize you, develop your talent, and get out more and more of you, but you should seek the proper way that fits your age. The Arab world is now full of care centers for literary talents, so search in the country you live or on the Internet for them because there are plenty of sites that sponsor literary young talented people like you, such as the Site of "writer Mahmoud Abu Farwah," Tabashir Program, and others, in addition to competitions and education which will develop your writing talent.

Go on with confident paces, prove yourself, and achieve your ambitions, keep writing, search for someone to push you forward, and do not look back or stop for any reason because you shall face many frustrating matters in your way, so do not look at them and just go on with your life.

The entire world awaits your writing. May Allah bless you!
