It is authentically reported that the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follows this with six days of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted the whole year” [Reported by Muslim]

The reason for this is that a good deed is multiplied tenfold; hence every fast is like ten fasts.

[Trans: Hence, a total of 36 fasts will be equivalent to 360 fasts]
