Muslim Aid:

The Chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie called on the President of Sri Lanka, H.E Mahinda Rajapaksa, on 13 December 2010 at the Prime Minister’s House, Temple Trees in Colombo. Among other dignitaries, the meeting was also attended by the Hon. Minister of Resettlement, Rishard Badurdeen and Muslim Aid’s Acting Country Director, Faizer Khan.

During the meeting the President expressed his deep gratitude “for the excellent work Muslim Aid is carrying out in Sri Lanka with great dedication and efficiency” and he commended Muslim Aid’s principles of serving humanity. He further encouraged Muslim Aid to play a key role in delivering the message across to other NGOs in order to provide much needed assistance to the resettlement programme in Sri Lanka.

Marking Muslim Aid’s 25th anniversary, the Chairman briefed the President on the activities and programmes of the organisation since opening its Field Office in 2005 and said: “we deeply appreciate all the assistance provided by your government departments in carrying out the humanitarian work in Sri Lanka.”

He further added: “Muslim Aid will continue to provide all the much needed support to rehabilitate the internally displaced people in their resettlement by providing housing and medical facilities.”

Muslim Aid opened its office in Sri Lanka after the Tsunami devastated the Island in December 2004. At present Muslim Aid Sri Lanka has 3 sub-offices in the north and east regions and provides a number of programmes including emergency and disaster relief, livelihood support, microfinance, healthcare and resettlement programmes, including the construction of housing for families affected by conflict.
