Muslims Encouraged To Donate Leftover Food To Masjid Alwi In Kangar

KANGAR - Muslims living around Kangar need not worry about their leftover food going to waste, as they can now leave them at the mosque, said Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin.

He said rather than throwing the food in the backlanes for cats and birds to eat, Muslims can do a charitable act by donating the food.

"Just pack the leftover cakes, fruits or cooked food and place them in the two refrigerators available at Masjid Alwi, Asri told a congregation after a weekly lecture, here last night.

He said the management of the mosque had purchased two refrigerators and placed one each outside the men's and women's prayer halls, so that it was convenient for anyone to drop their leftover food and for the needy to help themselves to them.

Asri said, Masjid Alwi was the first mosque in Perlis to provide free food in this way and hoped other mosques would follow the example.

A check by Bernama found both refrigerators filled with food even though the announcement was only made recently.
