A person may ask: What is the wisdom behind creating ants? And why did Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted) create them?

The answer to that is: Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) never created something in this world in vain, but His Wisdom and Will is to create things from nothing for a secret which none but He knows whether humans realize the wisdom behind creating them or not, and opened the door for people to search and enquire without making it prohibited. Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Quran) is the truth."[1]

Scholars recently and anciently have spoken lengthy about the wisdom of creating ants which we will sum up as follows:

1- The existence of ants on earth preserves the cleanness of the environment, where ants eat insects and stir the soil letting air in and out. Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited the killing of ants due to the importance or their existence.

2- Ants are counted important nutrition for many insects which have an important role in cleaning the environment from harms.

3- Ants fertilize some flowers.

4- Ants move the organic substance in the soil.

5- Ants are one of the most important insects which eat other insects.

6- Ants generate balance in insectology.

7- Then ants generate balance in the entire world. Therefore, Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered."[2] Ants have an important characteristic which is defending its existence by killing other insects; glory be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
