Orientalists who defended Islam

* George Sarton (1884 - 1956):

A belgian who departed to England then moved to the United States of America. He was assigned as a docent in Washington university then in Harvard University; and Carnegie Foundation helped him to busy himself in knowledge and writing.

He was considered one of trustworthy scholars in the history of science and the director of the International Federation of the history of science in Paris and the American Association of the history of sciences.

He wrote

* Lectures to show the contributions of Arabs in human thinking.

His most important writings is: "Entry to the history of science" in which he spoke fairly about the east, Arabs, and Islam against those who deny the beauties of Arabs and underestimate their value."[1]

* Emile Dermndjem:

French, who was assigned as a director to the library of Algeria and wrote tens of literary works, of the most important was: "The life of Muhammad" which was the best literary work that orientalists wrote about the Prophet (peace be upon him). It was printed in Paris 1929, and the second print was in 1950. Upon which the scholars of Islam depended in the east and the West, and was one of the most important references of Dr. Muhammad Hasanin Heikal when he wrote his book "The life of Muhammad."

* Wilfred Blunt: (1840 - 1922):

A British who received knowledge in Stonbhurst and Oscott, and joined the diplomatic service for some time then left it. He travelled to the Middle East and North Africa, and contacted the leaders of the national movement in Afghanistan and Egypt, and opposed the colonization of India, Egypt and Ireland.

He wrote:

• The Future of Islam (1882).

• The Secret History of Britian's occupation to Egypt (1907), translated into Arabic by Abdul-Qadir Hamzah. His wife Anne Blunt (1837-1917) who studied Arabic very well translated the seven poems which used to be hung on the Ka`bah into English, and her husband rewrote it in English poetry (1903).
