The one who ponders over the biography of the Pious Predecessors feels shy of his negligence; let us read this story slowly:

Abu Yazid Al Bastamy stood up for worship at night then he saw his young child standing by his side. He felt pity for the young child because of his young age, the coldness of the night, and the hardship of wakefulness.

He said to him: O my son, sleep for you have a long night.

His son said to him: So, why do you stand up for Salah?

He said: O my son, my Lord commanded me to stay up for Salah.

The boy said: I have memorized an Ayah from the book of Allah in which Allah says: "Verily, your Lord knows that you do stand (to pray at night) a little less than two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and also a party of those with you." So, who are those people who stood up with the Prophet (peace be upon him) for worship?

The father said: They were his Companions.

The boy said: So, do not deprive me of the honor of accompanying you in obeying Allah.

The father said in astonishment: O my son, you are a child and have not reached the puberty age yet.

The boy said: O father, I see my mother lighting fire with small pieces of wood to light a big fire, so I fear that Allah would start lighting Hell-Fire with us before grown up people if we neglect His Obedience.

So, his father was stunned by his words out of Allah's Fear and said: Stand up my child, for you are more entitled of worship than your father! [Excerpted from the book of the tears of Mihrab - Fahd Al Humayd].

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You should perform the Late Night Prayer, for it is the practice of our righteous predecessors before you. Performing Salah at night brings near to Allah and keeps away from sin and atones for wrongs and forces out physical ailments." [Reported by At-Tirmidhy and Al Albany graded it as authentic].

Performing voluntary night Salah implies a pleasure that is only conceived by those who are guided by Allah to perform it. The children of the Predecessors offered to us the best examples in a time the grown up people have neglected their duties and obedience; they bear their sins as well as the sins of those whom they support.

O Allah, make us from those who stand up at night for worship and those who remember him. O Allah, send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), his family, his Companions, and those who follow him until the Day of Recompense.
