Many people inquire: Why am I inflicted by such and such matter? Perhaps a person does not observe patience on this affliction and the reason is that man does not know whether the infliction is good or bad for him. As for those who observe patience, they shall know later the reality of affliction and the goodness which affliction brings to them in the world and the reward a person shall get in the Hereafter if he observes patience. Perhaps we take a lesson from the story of the butterfly in our life to learn the importance of infliction in our lives.

They story reads:

One day an opening appeared in a cocoon that is dangled from a branch.

A man sat for hours staring at a little butterfly.

Suddenly, when it was pushing its body out of the cocoon, the butterfly stopped. It seemed that it progressed more than its ability and could no longer continue.

Then, the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a scissors and opened the cocoon.

The butterfly got out easily, however its body was defamed and its wings were shrunken.

The man remained staring at the butterfly and expected that its wings will spread out any moment.

Then its body shall become able to fly using its wings.

However, that did not happen.

In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling with a mutilated body and shrunken wings and the butterfly could not fly again.

The man did not understand that the cocoon was compressed and the struggle of the butterfly to go out was a miracle from Allah to push some liquids from its body into its wings to be able to fly after going out of the cocoon.

Sometimes, afflictions are necessary for our lives.

If it had been destined for us to lead our lives without afflictions or hardships, we would have stumbled in life and would not have become strong.

Have we understood from the story of the butterfly that if we had not been afflicted, we would not have become able to fly in the sky of the world?
