Question

Peace be upon you!

A man offered to marry me and he is suitable for me in almost everything but he is divorced. The reason of divorce was he cannot beget children, and I have never married before, so this is my first marriage. I do not know whether to accept him or not, but none knows the unseen except Allah and in the future Allah may grant us children; should I accept or not?

Thank you!

Answer

Dear sister, procreation is a gift from Allah and motherhood is a natural disposition in women, but the matter is up to you whether to accept marriage without having children or to refuse.

If you want to have children and you shall not be able to continue your life with him if you do not have children, you have to do a full medical check-up for both of you to make sure because if that was the cause of divorce, he must have done many tries to fix it and they all were failure. So, in order to know whether he is infected with an incurable disease or he may have children from another woman, you have to ask the doctor and understand the problem well. Praise be to Allah for the advancement of medicine and with Allah's Willing the matter will be clear and then you shall be able to decide as you wish.

Do not forget to ask Allah for choice and invoke Him to facilitate goodness for you, ward off evil from you, and to make it up if he is not suitable.

May Allah grant you success and facilitate goodness for you!
