School broadcast is divided into two main parts: Listeners and speakers.

Now we are talking about the importance of listening and the circumstances surround listeners.

In the beginning, we should explain the importance of listening.

Listening denotes the effort which man exerts to listen. Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "So, when the Qur'ân is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imâm (of a mosque) is leading the prayer (except Sûrat Al Fâtihah), and also when he is delivering the Friday-prayer Khutbah]." [Surat Al A`raf: 204].

We practice listening more than speaking, reading, and writing.

One of the studies conducted on students showed the following:

* 52.5% of communicational activity is spent in listening.

* 17.3% of communicational activity is spent in reading.

* 16.3% of communicational activity is spent in talking.

* 13.9% of communicational activity is spent in diction.

Studies also confirm that listening skills are more important for academic excellence than reading skills.

After this explanation, we would like to ask a very important question which is: Is the position of listeners proper for sound listening or not?

The Answer is: As we mentioned before, we have two types of listeners:

1- Internal listeners: (From inside school) students and others.

2- External listeners: (Anyone listens to broadcast from outside school) such as nearby families and others.

What interests us in the first degree is the first kind which is internal listeners because they are the only listeners we can communicate with. Also, it is the part which we can change its conditions when notices exist, therefore we shall study the status of internal listeners from several aspects such as:

(1) Place.

(2) Time.

(3) Atmospheric conditions.

(4) Period of time.

(5) Psychological status.

(6) The position of listening at listeners.

Wait for our next articles to explain these six matters.
