Question

As-salamu `Alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!).

May Allah reward you the best and guide you! My question is: My work colleague is married and has a smart child in primary two.

The child asked her persistently during her period which took place during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah: Why do not you fast? Why do not you touch the Qur'an? How should she answer? Should she tell her to wait until she grows up and then she will know or tell her right now?

May Allah guide you!

Answer

Peace be upon you!

Dear sister, welcome in our Network and we are pleased to answer your questions anytime.

It is important that a mother would answer all the questions of her children and the best way to do so is that a mother would answer correctly, simply, and in short.

This will give the child the chance to understand and continue her questions and does not bother herself with filling her head with much questions as long as these questions are answered.

Her duty as a mother is to offer help and knowledge to her child and explaining matters properly. She should not ignore her embarrassing questions because that will make her resort to her mates and maybe to her servants to find the answer she wants, and maybe she receives incorrect information.

Children have a natural inclination to knowledge, therefore the mother should not ignore these questions or delay the answer, on the contrary, she should seize the opportunity to explain to her because she will accept what she is going to say.

May Allah grant you success!
