باب ما يقولُ في المسجد

It is desirable to mention Allah frequently, glorify Him, saying: La Ilaha Illa Allah [No god but Allah], praising Him, and saying: Allahu Akbar [Allah is the greatest], along with other types of Adhkar. It is also desirable to recite the Qur'an, read the Hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the books of Fiqh, and all Shari`ah sciences.

Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "In houses (mosques) which Allâh has ordered to be raised (to be cleaned, and to be honored), in them His Name is remembered [i.e. Adhan, Iqamah, Salât (prayers), invocations, recitation of the Qur'ân, etc.]. Therein glorify Him (Allâh) in the mornings and in the afternoons or the evenings, * Men." [Surat An-Nur: 36 - 37].

Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "And whosoever honors the Symbols of Allâh, then it is truly from the piety of the hearts." [Surat Hajj: 32].

Allah (Exalted be He) says: "And whoever honors the sacred things of Allâh, then that is better for him with his Lord." [Surat Hajj: 30].

Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Masjids are built for what they are meant to be (i.e., Salah, remembrance of Allah, acquiring knowledge, etc.)." [Reported by Muslim in his Sahih: No. 569].

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Bedouin who urinated in the masjid: "It is not proper to use the mosque for urinating or easing oneself. They are merely built for the remembrance of Allah and the recitation of the Qur'an'', or as he stated. [Reported by Muslim in his Sahih: No. 285].

Chapter on the intention of I'tikaf (retiring to the mosque for worship) and greeting the masjid

It is desirable for the one who sits in the Masjid to intend I`tikaf because it is permissible for him to observe I`tikaf even for a moment.

Some scholars said: It is permissible for a passerby to observe I`tikaf. It is better for a passerby to stop for a moment and observe I`tikaf then goes on. The one who sits in the masjid should enjoin goodness and forbid evil to protect, revere, and show respect to the masjid.
