A word comes out of a truthful heart to touch the receiver's heart before his hearing.

A word has an amazing impact in souls, the words of love can do more than many actions, and the cruel words have deep impact in oneself.

The tongue is a blessing, but silence is part of smartness.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to `Uqbah ibn `Amir (may Allah be pleased with him): "Control your tongue, keep to your house, and weep over your sins." [Sunan At-Tirmidhy].

The tongue is the messenger of the heart and the mind that expresses a certain idea or an inner feeling.

Through words we express about love, hatred, joy, sadness, satisfaction, and discontent.

Ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah who has no god but He, nothing needs long detention than the tongue!

Let it be known that the highest functions of the tongue are: Reciting the Glorious Qur'an, mentioning Allah, and doing good for people.

This is the pure natural disposition of the tongue. As for apparent aberration and clear natural inversion, it is generated by using this blessing in violating the boundaries of Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted).

Lie, tale bearing, and backbiting are all negative images to a personality that has a weak connection with Allah.

Of these negative images are: Speaking about things that do not concern you, idle speech, indulging into falsehood, arguing, adverseness, drawl and faking of speech, obscenity, insulting, ribaldry, cursing, singing. and false promises.

Allah (may He be Exalted) says in Surat Al Hujurat: "O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful." [Surat Al Hujurat: 12].

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. He should neither deceive him nor lie to him, nor leave him without assistance. A Muslim is inviolable to his Muslim brother in regard to: his honor, his blood, and property. Piety is here (and he pointed out to his chest thrice). It is enough for a Muslim to commit evil by despising his Muslim brother." [Sahih At-Tirmidhy].

Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you want to mention the defects of your friend, you have to recall your defects.

Of these negative images is: tale bearing.

Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says in Surat Al Qalam: "A slanderer, going about with calumnies." [Surat Al Qalam: 11].

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The person who goes about with calumnies will never enter Paradise." [Sahih Muslim].

How do you lie while you know that Allah sees and listens to your secrets?!

How do you backbite and eat the flesh of your Muslim brother while you feel the watch of Allah over you?!

How do you be a cause in sedition and enmity by conveying words and generating enmities?

Ask yourself:

How do I disobey Allah by His Blessings?!

How do I deny the favor of (speech),

and if I lose it, can I lie again?

Make truthfulness your motto, and repeat good words to people starting from this point until the last word of your life, and ask Allah for good end and saying the greatest word before death, which is the testimony of there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger.

[Ponder over]

Allah (may He be Exalted) says in Surat Al Furqan: "And the (faithful) slaves of the Most Gracious (Allâh) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness." [Surat Al Furqan: 63].

Allah (Glory be to Him) added the servitude of His Prophets and Righteous Servants to His Name(the Most Merciful)

as an indication to reaching that status because of His Mercy.

[A message]

Instill truthfulness in everything around you, particularly young children, and remember the Prophet's saying: "Whoever says: 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,' one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea." [Sahih Al Bukhari].

[A pause]

A believer is like a lamp wherever he is placed should shine.
