It is Sunnah for whoever lays down the deceased to say: In the name of Allah, and following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

By the consensus of the four Imams (may Allah be pleased with them)

Proof to that:

The Hadith of Ibn Omar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "In the name of Allah, and following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).”[1]. Al Darqitini (recorded this) as Ila[2] and so did Al Bayhaqi[3] that the Hadith stopped at Ibn Omar. Alone in raising the Hadith is: Hammam ibn Yahya and he is trustworthy, but there are those who are more trustworthy such as: Sho'ba and Hisham Al Dastuwai. They narrated a situation about Ibn Omar (may Allah be pleased with him). Even if it was a situation, what is clearer and Allah knows best is that there is a ruling to elevate (the narration) because the likes of him are not referred to opinion and he has like the four Imams (may Allah be pleased with them). It is Sunnah for whoever puts the deceased into the grave to say " In the name of Allah, and following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ". Meaning: on his Shariah, on his way.

• It is Sunnah to cover a woman before laying her down in the grave.

It is Sunnah to cover the grave of a woman before laying her down into the grave

Proof to that:

A. The consensus of the scholars on that.

Ibn Qudama (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "we do not know any disagreement in preferring to cover a grave among the people of knowledge". [4]

B. That is a covering for her because the woman is Awrah, so something of her (awrah) may become visible when laying her down in the grave

As for a man, it is not Sunnah to cover his grave when laying him down.

• The deceased is placed on their right, facing the Qibla.

It is better to turn him on his right facing the Qibla. There is no clear Proof to that but it is a command as Ibn Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned. The work of the Muslims has continued since the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to our day today, and it remains until our age today.[5]
