I got a big "zero" in almost everything during my first steps in marriage. I thought my torrent feelings toward my beloved husband were sufficient as a start, and they would open for me the gates of his heart to forgive anything for me; how many pots were burnt! And how many delicious meals I challenged my husband to prepare and spent time and efforts, but unfortunately, the house was filled by the smell of "scorch"!

How many trays I left in the stove and forgot about them! How many expensive vases I stumbled over causing them to crash and my heart was broken for them! How many shirts of my husband that smeared in pink after being washed with the red bed sheets!

Once, I left a pot on fire and went to sleep, when it was dawn, I woke up to pot burning on stove. Except for Allah's Kindness, the entire house would have been burnt.

The concealment theory had failed:

In the last moments before my husband's return from work, I was getting ahead of time to hide what was burnt, the burnt spots, or what has been destroyed. I thought that I was good at concealment.

However, sometimes my husband smells scorch or stumbles in something that was left after cleaning, which seemingly was not done properly.

He would smile at me jokingly and say: Tomorrow you shall learn.

I kept waiting for tomorrow to learn but it did not show up.

By the passage of time, his friendly smile changed into a tender reproach then to slight fights with words. I thanked Allah that our fights did not turn into punches.

The thing that made my husband observe patience was, as he said: "My sense of humor" which he loved most to the extent that when he went out of control before me, I used to laugh. Thereupon, he would laugh loudly and we embraced one another; I kept on repeating my promise that I shall succeed.

However, he used to say to me: It is enough for me that you are trying.

The encouraging words were fruitful. After many years of marriage, now I held banquets and prepare dinners. My house became full of delicious food and flavors of delicious desserts.

Moreover, I became a source of knowledge to my friends if they want information about house cleaning, tiding, or need a delicious meal. Now, I train my daughter to master cooking, housekeeping; perhaps she does not suffer what I had suffered.

Finally, my dear girl who is approaching marriage, do not be like me, do not miss a chance to learn, and dedicate one hour daily to train yourself to cooking and housekeeping so that you can save a lot of time, effort, and money.

Do not believe that the way to your husband's heart is food only, but also cleaning, sweeping, tidying and so on.
