Manhood as defined by the Qur'an is different from the meaning we have in mind. The Qur'an defined some conditions for manhood. Manhood is a comprehensive word that includes all good traits and virtues, and by which a person reaches the status of pious people. The Qur'an defined its conditions and features, and spoke about the descriptions of its people. Our Lord mentioned it three times in the Qur'an correlated with purity, reformation, worship, and fighting for the sake of Allah, and other times He mentioned it correlated with the description of masculinity. The first time: He mentioned it in Surat At-Tawbah when He described His pure servants, the people of Masjid Quba', the visitors of the Prophet's Masjid which the Prophet built on the bases of piety against the hypocrites' masjid which was based on hypocrisy and discord. "Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And Allâh loves those who make themselves clean and pure [i.e. who clean their private parts with dust (which has the properties of soap) and water from urine and stools, after answering the call of nature]." [Surat At-Tawbah: 108].They purify themselves from dirt and impurities as they purify themselves from sins by repentance and forgiveness. They are men who love Allah and Allah loves them, those are the men whose descriptions are defined in the Qur'an.

The second time in which Allah (Glory be to Him) mentioned manhood was in Surat An-Nurwhen Allah described His Servants who are not distracted by worldly matters and said that when the worldly distractions increase, they become nearer to Him, go to His Houses (masjids), and increase mentioning Allah day and night by the will of Allah. "In houses (mosques) which Allâh has ordered to be raised (to be cleaned, and to be honored), in them His Name is remembered [i.e. Adhan, Iqamah, Salât (prayers), invocations, recitation of the Qur'ân, etc.]. Therein glorify Him (Allâh) in the mornings and in the afternoons or the evenings, * Men whom neither trade nor sale (business) diverts from the Remembrance of Allâh (with heart and tongue), nor from performing As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), nor from giving the Zakât. They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned (out of the horror of the torment of the Day of Resurrection)." [Surat An-Nur: 36 - 37].

Men of high vigor and strong determinations, no trade or sale distract them and the world and its temptations do not possess their minds, they only fear a day during which hearts and sights overturned when they are displayed before the One, the superior force.

The third time in which our lord described His Servants of manhood was in Surat Al Ahzab and said: Men who were truthful in their covenant with Allah and observed patience for the sake of their lord in better and worse such as Anas ibn An-Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him) and others who did not witness the battle of Badr and said: "If Allah (Glory be to Him) made me participate in another battle, I would exert my full effort with the Messenger of Allah." Thereupon, Allah made him witness the battle of Uhud in which he kept his covenant with Allah and fought until he died. He was truthful and Allah fulfilled for him what he wished and an Ayah was revealed in this regard: "Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allâh [i.e. they have gone out for Jihâd (holy fighting), and showed not their backs to the disbelievers]; of them some have fulfilled their obligations (i.e. have been martyred); and some of them are still waiting, but they have never changed [i.e. they never proved treacherous to their covenant which they concluded with Allâh] in the least." [Surat Al Ahzab: 23].

By these good qualities he ascended to manhood and did not stay in the rank of masculinity in which all creatures are leveled.
