ISESCO Inks Cooperation Agreement with ALECSO

Rabat – The Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) signed an updated cooperation agreement. Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General of ISESCO, and Dr Abdallah Hamad Mouhareb, Director General of ALESCO inked the deal at a ceremony held in Rabat on Wednesday.

The signing ceremony took place at the opening session of the Forum of the National Commissions of the Arab Region, held at ISESCO headquarters. It was held in the presence of Dr Abdelhafid Debbarh, Secretary General of the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education, Eric Falt, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information, Dr Ali Bin Abdul Khaliq Al-Qarni, Director General of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS), along with Secretaries General of Arab States’ National Commissions for Education, Science and Culture, ambassadors and heads of cluster offices of international organizations in Rabat, and senior officials of ISESCO, ALECSO, UNESCO and ABEGS.

The agreement provides for cooperation, consultation and coordination in activities relating to education, culture, sciences and communication, and in the areas of inter-cultural dialogue, alliance of civilizations and understanding between peoples. The focus is also on exchange of information and material on matters of common concern, and mutual assistance for technical studies. ISESCO and ALECSO first signed a cooperation agreement in 1984, and a host of activities and programmes have since been carried out in the Arab Member States.
