Muslims who travelled to Mecca last year over the weekend donated building materials and other items to widows and orphans of Mageragere Sector in Nyarugenge District.

The delegation that comprised of 45 pilgrims also donated goats and cows to the families.

The head of the delegation, Hajji Isaac Munyakazi, who is also the headmaster of ESSI Secondary School in Nyamirambo, said the donation came from contributions made by members.

"On our side as Muslims, giving to the needy is enshrined in our faith's teachings; it's a sign of togetherness and shouldn't base on religious affiliations."

The group had earlier paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi by visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre.
