The Way of Performing Salah

(forbidden mistakes)

Translated by: Alamgeer Usmani.

Praise be to God, the King, the Judge, the Most gracious, the Most Merciful, praise be to God the equal to number of what He created and the equal to absolute number of what He created, and I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone who has no partner. Ann He blessed us with prophet Muhammad And made us the best ‘Ummah ever raised for mankind.

I bear witness that Muhammad is the servant and messenger of God, who explained the ways of good deeds to his ummah and warned against the gates of sins and evils, may God’s prayers and blessings be upon him, his family, his companions, followers and upon those who followed them in goodness until the Day of Judgment.

Afterwards,

So, I advise you and myself to fear God. Because the fearing Good is the best provision for comfort in the graves, and the best of what is preserved for the last day.

God forgive us and guide us and keep us away from carelessness and turning away and bless us to remember Him and to dedicate ourselves to Him.

اقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَةٍ مُعْرِضُونَ [الأنبياء: 1]

The reckoning of the people has drawn near to them, while they are in negligence, turning away (from its signs).

Our prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him,

Informed us that the first thing for which the servant will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment is his Salah (prayer). If it is sound and accepted then his all actions will be accepted but if it is not, then he will have lost and be doomed.

Servants of God,

It is the glorification and veneration of Allah the Almighty to pay attention to all of His commands, in particular to pay heed to what He magnified and about which He repeated His command over again.

It not hidden from anyone that the salah prayer has great significance in Islam and it is considered the pillar of Islam. There are abundant Qur’anic and Prophetic texts concerning it.

The concern of our Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, regarding salah prayer was very much. Later, This concern transferred to his companions, may God be pleased with them, until they narrated the smallest details in the description of the Prophet’s prayer, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him; They even explained the movements of his body even movement of fingers and the wagging of his beard when reciting the Quran in those salah prayer in which Quran is recited quietly.

how it was not the case, while he said, “Pray as you have seen me praying”(Narrated by Bukhari).

and only performing the prayer is not important rather, establishing prayer and applying conditions basis, mandatory things and Sunan of salah prayer also has importance.

It is worthwhile for a Muslim that he must educate himself the jurisprudence of prayer and memorize various remembrances salah in the hope that he will be successful in establishing it and he will obtain its great reward and virtue.

And, praise be to God, the short and lengthy means of acquiring knowledge, whether written, visual or audio, have been easy to get nowadays.

Brothers in faith,

Here is a list of forbidden mistakes that are repeated more often. They reduce or sometimes, nullify the reward of prayer.

The rewards of worshipers as regards to salah prayer is quite varying according to the worshiper’s follow-up to the prayer of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the presence and reverence of his heart. It is mentioned In the hadith of Ammar Ibn Yasir, Indeed, the servant performs the prayer, and nothing recorded for him except a tenth of reward, a ninth of reward, an eighth of reward, one-seventh of reward, one-sixth of reward one-fifth of reward, one-fourth of reward, one-third of reward and one-half of reward.”

Honourable brothers,

Among the mistakes, is to precede imam.

It is mentioned in the Bukhari:” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Isn't he who raises his head before the Imam afraid that Allah may transform his head into that of a donkey or his figure (face) into that of a donkey?"

This is a severe threatening to those who precede their imam.

And the common mistakes is that people, start completing missed rakaa immediately after imam says the first salaam, and this is forbidden. On the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah one day led us in the prayer. and when he completed the Prayer he turned his face towards us and said: 0 People, I am your Imam, so do not precede me in bowing and prostration and in standing and turning (faces, i. e. In pronouncing salutation), Narrated by Muslim.

Among the mistakes: Some worshipers say “Allahu w AkbarAkbar”.

Jurists differed as to whether the prayer would be valid or not. The Muslim must be careful for his prayer.

Among the mistakes: prostrating on the forehead without the nose.

Likewise, the scholars differed about the validity of his prayer.

Some people at times, raise their leg while prostrating to rub his leg, so the prostration ends because the seven parts of prostration are not completed!

Among the mistakes: Saying the takbeers of moving loudly which disturbs others.

Like this, reciting Quran and remembrances in prayer in laud manners which disturbs and agitats others. And agitation is forbidden as it is known.

and this also applies to the recitation of the Qur’an in the mosques. Some worshipers go to the corner of mosque to avoid disturbance. Sheikh Ibn Baz was asked the following question: Is it permissible to read the Qur’an aloud on Friday in the mosque?

He replied: It is not permissible for a Muslim to raise his voice when reciting the Quran in the mosque or elsewhere if it disturbs other worshipers or reciters. The sunnah way is that one should recite in a manner which does not harm others. Because it is proven by hadith that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came out to the people while they were praying and their voices were raised in the recitation. He said, "When you pray you are talking confidentially to your Lord. So look to what you confide to Him, and do not say the Qur'an out loud so that others hear it."

As for saying remembrance loudly after the obligatory prayer, it is Sunnah.

Oh God, give us an understanding of religion and teach us the interpretation, and forgive us and our parents and the Muslims living and dead among them. You are Forgiving and Merciful.

Second sermon

Brothers in Islam,

Coming back to mention some of the forbidden mistakes of the prayers:

Among the most serious mistakes is to rush in prayer and lack of quietness in bowing , from it and in prostrating properly.

and it is mentioned in the hadith of the one who prayed badly: “Go back and pray, for you have not prayed” Narrated by Muslim and Bukhari.

Among the mistakes which invalidate prayer as some scholars suggested, is to bend to the point of bowing while standing in prayer.

if handkerchief falls from you while standing, and you need to take it, take it with your foot, or be patient until you bow or sit down.

O Worshipers: Standing in the obligatory prayer is a mandatory. And whoever is unable to do it due to illness or old age, he may sit on the ground or on a chair.

As for the one, who can stand in the salah prayer ,then it is not allowed for him to sit in obligatory prayer.

It should be noted that if he is excused for not standing, then his excuse does not allow him to sit on the chair for his bowing and prostration.

If he is excused for not bowing and prostrating in an actual manner, then this excuse does not allow him not to stand and sit on the chair.

The rule regarding the duties of prayer is that what the worshiper can do, he must do, and what he is unable to, is waived.

Among the mistakes of the worshipers: Excessive movement during prayer, and the jurists say that frequent movement without a need nullifies the prayer.

Dear loved ones,

I conclude with the noticeable point about the takbeers of moving between the acts of prayer.

There must be takbeer between two acts, for example, if he wants to bow or prostrate, he must begin his takbeer from the starting of bending, and it is wrong to say the takbeer after reaching into another act. That is called the takbeer of moving between two acts of prayer Salah.

And we ask God to bless us with the establishment of prayer.

Oh God, benefit us with what you taught us...
