Kolkata: Muslims in West Bengal are considered as the most backward in terms of their socio- economic condition. However, now they are making efforts to improve their lot by setting up schools at different places in the state. In this connection a school and a madrasa was set up in remote of the state for girls. An NGO Basanti Chunakhali Education and Welfare Foundation has taken the initiative in this regard which established  Sunder bin Hajni Zarina ben Girls Madarsa and Missionary School at Basanti town which falls under district North 24 Pragna in the state  near Bangladeshi border.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, noted social activist and president of Forum for RTI Act and Anti-Corruption, Advocate Nazia Elahi Khan said that opening a school here is a laudable step by the Welfare Foundation. She said in today’s sheer materialistic world, education has become a commercial commodity but the local people of Basanti Chunakhali has done a great job by establishing a school which will be a Sadaqah Jariya (a voluntary charity).

Mrs Nazia Khan, who inaugurated the school, lamented present education system which only produced good engineers, doctors, and professionals but not good human beings.

All the educational institutions in our country have discarded moral teaching subject from the syllabus in the imitation of West, she added.

On Madarsa education, she said its syllabus makes students good citizens and good human beings. She also stressed need of making Madarsa as a symbol of Islamic culture and civilization which can imitate by others.

On the occasion, hundreds of people from the nearby areas gathered to attend the opening ceremony of the school which was held on Sunday as they hope that school will help in improving the condition of the area which remained economically and educationally backward over the years.
