Muslim Leader speaks out against Islamophobia, teaches love

KENTWOOD, MI - Every Friday afternoon, Muslims crowd inside the largest West Michigan mosque to pray and hear their imam's message.

The leader of the At-Tawheed Islamic Center, Imam Morsy Salem, teaches love and tolerance.

Salem recently spoke out against discrimination, including the term "Islamophobia" - defined as the dislike or prejudice against Islam or Muslims.

"If we can really understand each other and help one another, just to make our life much easier," said Salem.

He said the Quran teaches God put different nations on the earth to help each other.

Salem believes religion should be judged on its teachings, and not the actions of certain followers.

"Put your trust in God and love everybody and have no hatred in your heart," said Salem. "It's not our business to judge people and make discrimination."
