Islamic Studies to be revamped

A nine-year plan has been devised to integrate Islamic education into the national curriculum through digital and revised teaching strategies.

The goal, aimed to giving pupils a more all-rounded education, will foster teacher development through setting up vocational education teams to exchange expertise among Islamic studies teachers.

“Teaching Islamic studies more effectively requires teachers to form special educational strategies conducive to legislative sciences,” said one source. “This involves liaising with the Education Ministry and other higher education establishments.”

The new strategy also aims to maintain electronic communicability between teachers and virtual online communities to ensure Islamic studies conform to standards enjoyed in other disciplines.

“The development of the Islamic education curriculum should be mirrored by fostering development in Arabic, mathematics, technology, social sciences and English,” said the source.

“The ultimate aim is to achieve a comprehensive approach between the subjects, essential 21st century skills, and reconcile topic and teaching methods,” they said. The strategy also aims to empower schools and educational authorities to take part in the curricular and teaching development process, in addition to strengthening character-building among students through engaging families and local communities in the process.
