The problem of escaping school

Escaping school is one of the serious problems which confront parents and teachers as well. Escaped student always searches for a place to stay off sight and these places most probably are infected, so a student finds himself in the middle of weird events. Escaping school indicates the students' inability to adapt with school environment.

Factors that lead to escaping school:

There are many factors of the most important is the school environment and home environment.

A- Factors of school environment:

1- The relationship between teachers and students: This relationship is very important in directing children toward school, but if this relationship is bad, it causes them to escape school. The reason may be the teachers' inability to understand the problems of students, look at them kindly, and resorting to punishment and mockery instead of helping them get rid of their problems.

2- The interrelationships of students affect them either positively or negatively in regard to directing children to school.

3- Educational philosophy which a school follows plays an important role in encouraging students to school or escaping it even if that philosophy has an indirect effect through curriculums, teaching approaches, the type of school books which may be all based on correct understand for the different readiness of students.

4- Tests and homework.

5- The general school atmosphere has a notable effect on the adaptation of students if the spirit of democracy and tolerance prevail.

B- Factors pertaining to the family:

The general family atmosphere indirectly causes young students to hate school when the family does not provide quiet atmosphere for work and study. Parents may fight in front of children which may affect their school achievements and cause them to escape school.

The comparison which some parents do between their children and others is one of the most serious matters that affect the children where children feel failure, frustration, and pain. The matter may go too far and affects the school achievements of children and cause them to hate school.

Ways of confronting the problem of escaping school:

For the family:

1- The family should provide a quiet atmosphere to children that is filled with love and affection that will help him study well and causing them to love school.

2- We have to stop comparing children with others so as not to feel frustration.

3- Parents should stop using school as a means for threat for their children or forcing them to do what they do not want to do.

4- If the reason of hating school is the bad relationship between him and his teachers, parents have to study these reasons carefully and try to contact school and teachers to fix the situation or transfer the children to another school.

5- Helping the child to make new friends.

For school:

Teachers have to be well-trained to estimate the important relationship with children and know the characteristics of their growth and readiness, thereby they will be able to help them, solve their problems, and guide them until they love school.

General rules should be followed by teachers when dealing with children:

1- Teachers should not interfere much in children's actions.

2- It is not permissible to show children as unable to do anything.

3- It is not permissible to mock at children particularly before others.

4- It is not permissible for teachers to look unable, weak, or worried before children.

5- It is not permissible to incite a child to entertain ourselves.

6- It is not permissible to discuss children's behavior before them.

7- It is not permissible to incite children through comparison with other children.

8- Teachers and school should meet the needs of children as much as possible.
