The venerable Companions in lines of light (5)

Hamzah ibn `Abdul-Muttalib

The light of Islam did not find any resistance in getting into the merciful heart of Hamzah which was full of nobility and tenderness.

Hamzah ibn `Abdul-Muttalib was known for courage and chivalry.

He became famous with mercy and helping the needy and supporting oppressed people. If a young child asked Hamzah about a need, he would hasten to meet its need.

He used to maintain kind relationships with one's kinship and increase the doing of goodness and guide others to it. His heart beat with mercy and affection when he heard about the harm of Abu Jahl to his nephew Muhammad (peace be upon him), so he hastened to avenge for him, lifted his bow, hit him with it and injured his head.

- Yes, he was Hamzah ibn `Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet's uncle (peace be upon him) who was surnamed by Abu `Imarah or it was said: Abu Ya`la. He declared himself as a Muslim in the second year after the Prophet's mission.

His Islam was a stronghold for Islam and Muslims. He had a strong personality, was full-bodied, reasonable, strong-willed, however he was merciful and kind.

He was the emir of the first military unit sent to encounter the disbelievers, and the first banner the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave to an emir was his.

He fought strongly and bravery in the Battle of Badr with two swords. He fought Shaybah ibn Rabi`ah and killed him, therefore the Prophet (peace be upon him) named him Asadullah and Asadurasuluh (the lion of Allah and the lion of His Prophet).

He was the knight of the battlefield who fought bravery in the Battle of Uhud where he killed thirty-one polytheists in one day.

He was killed by the bayonet of Wahshi ibn Harb and became a martyr.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The master of martyrs at the sight of Allah on the Day of Recompense is Hamzah."

May Allah be pleased with him and make his final destination Paradise. May Allah reward him the best for what he offered for Islam.
