Reading his book, one is a little worried. The point being, Why do you say that Islam can be an element of Catalan social divide?
It is a possibility of future recurrence that could happen because the problems that have existed in other European countries.

Islam has always been linked to immigration. It is true that most Muslims who are now in Catalonia are immigrants as people with rights and dignity. If the problems of Muslims only focus in terms of immigration, what we are doing is moving a topic of fundamental rights such as, freedom of worship, to the field of immigration. For such a large group of Muslims there are many difficulties in practicing their religion or to open a place to pray.

If we study the Catalan nationalist historiography of the nineteenth century to the twentieth century we see that there is a deep cultural identity resulting in the exclusion of Islam. In Catalonia, we are not actively aware of the danger that exists in linking national identity with a religion. It is very dangerous because it is creating a model that excludes religious minorities in Catalunya.
The book is a long way from denouncing Islamophobia... Just being a Muslim today sadly arouses suspicion.

- What do you mean by Islamophobia?
-Islamophobia is not only a rejection of Islam it is anti-Semitism.
Muslims are daily accused of lack of integration and of trying to over run europe and the media in these countries have portrayed these stereotypes as normal and I find this very serious.

- You claim that Islamophobia is also stronger in Catalonia than in other parts of Spain?
The figures speak for themselves. Of the 50 cases of neighborhood opposition to the opening of mosques that have been recorded in the last eight years, 35 are in Catalonia. It is quite significant.

- How to standardize the practice of Islam among the society when there are features such as differential subordinate role of women in Muslim culture?
Islam is a tradition, a religion, and there are Muslims of different cultures. Yes it is true that certain people who come from countries where there are cultures where women have a subordinate role, tend to repeat the same cultural patterns here. But not to say that this has to be that way.
