The Grave

Everybody hears the punishment of the grave except for the humans and Jinn.

Proof to that: what was mentioned previously from the Hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), which is agreed upon. In it, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “He will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings.”[1]

If it is said: Why did Allah Almighty hide the punishment of the grave?

The answer -may Allah take care of you: Allah Almighty has hidden the punishment of the grave for a number of reasons. Among them:

1. His mercy Almighty over his slaves. If the punishment was made clear for them, their lives would have been miserable and it would have gathered their sadness.

2. In showing the punishment of the deceased there is a shame for the deceased.

3. In showing the punishment; people would not bury each other. If the punishment is shown, none of them would bury a deceased fearing for their poor consequences. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If it were not the reason that you would stop burying (your dead) in the graves on listening to the torment in the grave which I am listening to, I would have certainly made you hear that.” [2]
