The Prophet's Sunnah concerning marriage and love making[1]

- It was authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he said: "It was made beloved to me of your world: women and perfume, and the joy of my eye was made in Salah." He also said: "O youth, whoever among you is able to marry should marry." He said: "Marry women who are loving and very prolific, for I shall outnumber the peoples by you."

- His way in dealing with his wives was based on kind treatment and good behavior. He used to say: "The best among you is the one who treats his family in the best manner and I am the best (among you) to my family."

- When one of his wives loved something, which is permissible, he would fulfill her needs. He used to send the girls of the Ansar (The Supporters) to play with `A'ishah. When `A'ishah drank water, he would place his lips on the spot from which she drank. He used to place his head in her lap and recite the Qur'an. When she was in her menses, he used to command her to wear a loincloth to caress her.

- When he offered Salatul-`Asr (the Afternoon Salah), he would go visit his wives, approached them, and asked about their conditions. However, when night fell, he used to go to the wife for which he assigned the night.

- He used to split nights, homage, and expenditure among them and sometimes he would touch some of his wives in the presence of the rest.[2]

- He used to have sexual intercourse with his wives at the end of the night as well as in its beginning. If he had sexual intercourse with them in the beginning of the night, he would have performed Ghusl (a ritual shower) then went to sleep or performed ablution then went to sleep. He said: "The one who has sexual intercourse with his wife in her buttock is cursed." He said: "If anyone of you, when having sexual intercourse with his wife, says: "Bismillah, Allahumma jannibni-Sh-Shaitan wa jannib-ish-Shaitan ma razaqtana," and if it is destined that they should have a child, then Satan will never be able to harm him."

- He said: "If one of you buys a slave girl, a slave, or a mount, he should put his hand on their foreheads, supplicate Allah for blessings, and mention the name of Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted). He should say: O Allah, I ask you for their goodness and the goodness for which they were created, and I seek refuge in You from their evil and the evil for which they were created."

- He used to say to the one who has just married: "May Allah bless you, bless on you, and match between you in the best form."

- If he wanted to travel, he used to draw lots among his wives. Whomever was chosen, he would take with him and leave the rest.

- It was not from his Sunnah to pay attention to building, decorating, and expanding houses.

- The Prophet (peace be upon him) divorced, took one of his wives back in marriage again, made Ila' (husband's oath not to have intercourse with his wife for four months or more) but for only one month, and never committed Zhihar.
