Reciting the Qur'an in Ramadan

Dr. Ibrahim ibn Fahd ibn Ibrahim Al Wad`an

Selections from the words of Sheikh Muhammad ibn `Uthaymain (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul)

If a knowledge seeker has set a daily program for himself [during the day or at night] and he assigned two thirds of his time to memorize texts and reading, and the rest should be for his food, drink, and reciting the Qur'an; should he continue to do the same even in Ramadan? Or should he dedicate the most of his time to the recitation of the Qur'an? Could you kindly advise? May Allah reward you the best!

The Answer is:

What should be done in Ramadan is to dedicate most of your time for reciting the book of Allah (may He be Glorified and Exalted) because reciting the Qur'an during Ramadan has an extra benefit and excellence that cannot be found in any other month. Therefore, Gabriel (peace be upon him) used to come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and study the Qur'an with him during Ramadan because it was sent down during that month, so this month is more entitled than others in reciting the Qur'an.

What should be done is to recite the Qur'an frequently during that month and to read other Shari`ah books to those who need it or memorize texts. Knowledge does not go away after the end of Ramadan and a person can catch up the missed reading after Ramadan.
