Mosques in Penang Get RM212, 000 from Federal Government for Ramadan

NIBONG TEBAL - The federal government is allocating RM212, 000 for distribution to 212 mosques in Penang in conjunction with the coming Ramadan.

State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said the money would be disbursed to the mosques for their respective management to organise the "moreh" (food after tarawih) for the congregation.

"The federal government has never sidelined mosques in Penang, although the mosques are administered by the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAIPP), which should be the one giving the contribution.

"We want activities at the mosques to continue during Ramadan, while at the same time helping the unfortunate ones," he told reporters after opening the Mobile Community Transformation Centre, organised by the Finance Ministry, here Sunday.

Also present were Penang State Secretary Datuk Farizan Darus and the Finance Ministry's Senior Deputy Director of the National Strategy Unit, Abdullah Suhaimin Md Yunus.
