Wearing short clothes for young girls

It is the duty of parents toward their young girls to accustom them to bashfulness and chasteness, and accustom them to wear long, wide, and opaque clothes.

Mu`awiyah ibn Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Goodness is a (natural) habit while evil is a stubbornness (constant prodding from Satan)."[1]

As it was said:

A young man of us grows up as his father accustomed him.

Sheikh `Abdullah ibn `Abdur-Rahman Al Jibrin (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: Children must be accustomed to wide clothes, for if a female child is accustomed to something in young age, it will become hard for her to give it up when she grows up. [Women's Fatwas: P. 179].

Sheikh Muhammad ibn Salih Al `Uthaymeen (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) was asked about some women who make their young girls wear short clothes exposing their legs?

He answered: My view is: Man should not make his daughter wear short clothes while she is young because if she gets accustomed to it, she will do it continuously, but if she gets accustomed to decency in young age, she will remain as such when she grows up. My advice to our Muslim sisters to give up the clothes of West who bear hatred against Islam, and accustom their girls to wear covering and wide clothes and to bashfulness for it is part of faith.
