Do not speak about something that does not concern you

Some people came to a Companion during in his disease and his face was cheery, and when they asked him about the reason of his cheery face, and he said: There is no action more confirmed to me than two things: I used not to speak about things that do not concern me and my heart was free of hatred toward all Muslims.

Satisfaction with fate and destiny

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say in his invocation: (I ask You to make me pleased with what You have decreed).

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (Allah does not destine something for a believer but it contains goodness for him: If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is good for him; that does not happen but a believer).

`Abdul-Wahid ibn Zayd said: Satisfaction is the greatest gate to Allah, the worldly paradise, and the rest of worshippers. [Reported by Abu Nu`aym in Al Hilyah 6/156].

Some Successors was asked about their conditions during his sickness, and he said: The most beloved to Him (Allah), is the dearest to me.

As-Sirry was asked: Does a person who loves Allah find the pain of affliction? He said: No.

Repentance

Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "And turn in repentance and in obedience with true Faith (Islamic Monotheism) to your Lord and submit to Him, (in Islam), before the torment comes upon you, then you will not be helped. * And follow the best of that which is sent down to you from your Lord (i.e. this Qur'ân, do what it orders you to do and keep away from what it forbids), before the torment comes on you suddenly while you perceive not! * Lest a person should say: Alas, my grief that I was undutiful to Allah (i.e. I have not done what Allah has ordered me to do), and I was indeed among those who mocked [at the truth! i.e. La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), the Quran, and Muhammad peace be upon him and at the faithful believers, etc.] * Or (lest) he should say: If only Allâh had guided me, I should indeed have been among the Muttaqûn (the pious). * Or (lest) he should say when he sees the torment: If only I had another chance (to return to the world), then I should indeed be among the Muhsinûn (good-doers)." [Surat Az-Zumar: 54 - 58].

* Abu Musa narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah (the Exalted) stretches out His Hand in the night so that the sinners of the day may repent, and continue to stretch His Hand in the daytime so that the sinners of the night may repent, until the sun rises from the west." [Sahih Muslim 2759].

* Safwan ibn `Assal narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah opened a door from the western side which its width is as the distance of seventy years walking for repentance, and it shall not be closed until the sun rises from it."

* Ibn Rajab said: The meaning of repentance is: Holding oneself accountable for past actions, showing regret and repentance for past sins, despising oneself, crying out of Allah's Fear, pondering over the matters of the Hereafter. All these things increase faith in the heart and result in various hearty actions such as fear, love, hope, and reliance on Allah. It was said: This reflection is better than bodily actions.

Ka`b said: To weep for fear of Allah is more beloved to me than giving as my weight in gold for charity.
