Question

I am a young man who is about to marry and I want to start marriage 10 days or a week before Ramadan; is there a problem in terms of sexual performance due to fasting?

The body feels exhausted in addition that I will be at work all day long while I am fasting; will it affect my sexual performance, particularly I will be a newlywed and you know that at the beginning of marriage sexual intercourse will be above normal?

Answer

Dear valued brother, Welcome to (Alukah) Website.

I congratulate you on your expected marriage and I ask Allah, the Most High, the Most Great, to combine between you and your bride in goodness.

I do not believe that fasting could weaken your sexual performance, and consider with me the following points:

• Bodily fatigue due to work could weaken your sexual performance, but with little rest and reducing food at breakfast, you shall get back your power by the will of Allah.

• The only thing that can affect sexual performance at men is undergoing psychological pressure for any reason, worry and excessive anxiety, therefore be keen to relax and enjoy psychological comfort for it is more important.

• Being away from home during the daytime of Ramadan is (a blessing) because some couples (may Allah guide them) lose control of his sexual desire, particularly with the presence of their wives to the extent that they commit sexual intercourse with them during the daytime of Ramadan, so beware of that.

• Remember that sexual intercourse is a nice expression for intimacy and mercy between spouses, so it is not an obligatory or a custom or a way to prove your manhood.

Dear honorable brother, there is a difference in sexual performance between two men who have different views of marriage.

I ask Allah to bless you, and we always welcome you at Alukah.
