The Resurrection (7)

When is the resurrection?

The resurrection –may Allah increase your life in his obedience, occurs after the second blow. Before the blow water comes from the heavens from which the bodies of the slaves sprout out. Proof to that: The Hadith of Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) with Muslim, which was mentioned: “Then the trumpet would be blown and no one would hear that but he would bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other side and the first one to hear that trumpet would be the person who would be busy in setting right the tank meant for providing water to the camels. He would swoon and the other people would also swoon, then Allah would send or He would cause to send rain which would be like dew and there would grow out of it the bodies of the people. Then the second trumpet would be blown and they would stand up and begin to look (around). Then it would be said: O people, go to your Lord, and make them stand there. And they would be questioned…”[1]

The sprouting of the bodies when the rain comes down on them is similar to the sprouting of plants from the earth if water falls on them. That is why many times Allah Almighty gives the example in His Glorious Book the example of the resurrection and diffusion as bringing life to the earth by plants. The Almighty said:

{ وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُرْسِلُ الرِّيَاحَ بُشْراً بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَحْمَتِهِ حَتَّى إِذَا أَقَلَّتْ سَحَاباً ثِقَالاً سُقْنَاهُ لِبَلَدٍ مَّيِّتٍ فَأَنزَلْنَا بِهِ الْمَاء فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِ مِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ كَذَلِكَ نُخْرِجُ الْموْتَى لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ }

“And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy until, when they have carried heavy rainclouds, We drive them to a dead land and We send down rain therein and bring forth thereby [some] of all the fruits. Thus will We bring forth the dead; perhaps you may be reminded.” [Al Araf: 57]

 It was mentioned that the body of a human will be worn away in the grave except: the spine, because from it the creation will be assembled on the Day of Resurrection. The Hadith by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was mentioned: “Then Allah would cause the water to, descend from the sky and they (people) will sprout like Baqal"[2]. And he narrated: “There is a bone in the human being which the earth would never consume and it is from this that new bodies would be reconstituted (on the Day of Resurrection). He said: It is the spinal bone.”[3]

The first for whom the earth opens so he is resurrected is: the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that: the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I shall be pre-eminent arriongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first intercessor and the first whose intercession will be accepted (by Allah).”[4]
