Question

As-salamu `Alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!). I was hesitative to write to you, but giving hand to me motivated me to ask for your opinion. Perhaps what you shall read is not a problem to you but it is to me.

I have graduated two years ago and got my BA in English language and I took few courses. Anyone sees my biography says to me: Most places will need your field of specialty.

I have worked in an institute for five months but the enviers ruined my practical life by all means until I quitted my job then I worked in teaching for almost a month and half but the job was not suitable for me.

It was a futile effort, which I did not benefit from in my education and the students did not get benefit either. Moreover, I could not cover my expenses to the extent that I was forced to spend of my inherited money.

As you know the sector of domestic education often underestimates teachers and gives them low salaries. In short, teaching has eaten up my effort and comfort with no material or morale use.

We moved to another city one year ago where many jobs were offered to me, most of them were teaching but I did not accept them for the reasons I have mentioned.

Furthermore, several jobs with good salaries were offered to me, but they contained mixture with men, so I did not hesitate to reject them.

Now I am in a maze because my father (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) passed away ten years ago and left us a sum of money. We started to spend it according to the planning of our mother (May Allah protect her) for fear that the money would run out and we would not find enough sustenance to live. We were young and my brethren and I engaged in our study and did not have anyone to run a business for us and increase our money or stop it to decrease, and now we do not have but few.

My previous experiment in the field of teaching stopped me from teaching or accepting those jobs which their salaries do not exceed 1500 Riyals. In contrast, I have to work because I am the elder of my brethren. Indeed, Allah (may He be Exalted) predestines sustenance to birds but does not throw it in their nest as saying goes.

I thought about free work and projects, and few ideas have jumped into my mind but everything needs financial support, and I cannot risk my brethren's money for fear of loss.

Neither my family nor I worked in commerce and I do not know should I accept teaching, which does not provide the needs of my mother and brethren, especially in the time of high prices and the greed of merchants? Or I should wait until a good opportunity will come from Allah? In fact, my mind is distracted and I am no longer able to behave. Could you guide me, perhaps some methods and ideas slipped out of my mind.

May Allah bless your efforts and times, give you goodness in this world and in the Hereafter, and make you one of those who are released from fire in this blessed month.

Answer

My dear sister, As-salamu `Alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuh (May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you!).

We are pleased to have you in Alukah, and we invoke Allah (may He be Exalted) to make us a reason for guiding you to what is beneficial to you and to all questioners, for He is All Hearer, All Responding.

I would like to refer to your good qualities which are quite obvious in your message. Of these good qualities are your fear of Allah by choosing a suitable work environment, maintaining the trust of your father, your persistent endeavor to support your mother and brethren, your feeling of responsibility toward them, in addition to your well thinking of Allah (may He be Exalted).

Those qualities are in your favor and I hope that you promote and preserve them because they are important pillars in the success of man in all walks of life.

My dear sister, the problems which face man wherever and whenever he is are indispensable whether you face enviers, ignorant, or others. Many people often resort to leave the place to those people, thinking that changing the place will bring them comfort, which will be correct in some cases but rather necessary.

However, the most correct is to find a wise way to deal with those people so as to reduce their harm because a person cannot direct their harm away all the time. So, a person adapts with his environment whether this environment is work, study, neighborhood, or anything else.

Thereby man gains experience in dealing with different types of people and behavior. Such experience will be his weapon to face future situations, moreover a person shall enjoy the qualities which his job or work provides him.

Furthermore, moving from one place to another is not a guarantee that the coming problems are beatable.

Dear Muslim sister, I do not rebuke you for leaving your first job but I advise you to keep your future work because you still in the beginning of your practical life, and whenever your experience expands, the less pressure you shall face in work.

As for now, you cannot find an opportunity except in teaching, so I advise you to depend on Allah and start over beginning with the nearest place to your home and the place which will give more qualities.

Although your salary shall be low, it is enough for you and your family, at the moment, and prevents you from consuming your inheritance, which is a good way in preserving that money.

You can also search for another work besides teaching such as translation, courses or lessons in English language, or any other work that will not take all your time.

Moreover, by little economic view, you may save some money even if it is little because after a while you shall have enough money to start your new project or at least do the first steps.

Finally, I conclude with supplicating Allah to open the gates of sustenance to you and to your family, for He is All Hearer, All Responding. Looking forward to hear from you.
